June L. Hopkins 1937-2015
Memorial service for June L. Hopkins will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Laurent. Pastor Jim Turner will officiate.
Interment will be in the Laurens Cemetery near Laurens. The Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home in Laurens is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
In loving memory of June L. Hopkins, who passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, in Charlotte, NC, after a back injury which lead to complications with her cardiovascular illnesses. She was born June 8, 1937, in Palo Alto County, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil and Mary Howard.
June was raised and received her high school education in Mallard. She served as class vice-president and president in high school and was involved in many activities such as basketball, chorus, class plays and cheerleading. She attended community college for two years but was unable finish due to hard financial times. She soon found work in Laurens, where she met a native of Laurens, Richard Hopkins. On Nov. 22, 1958, they were wed.
June was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished her family and friends. She was a member of the Laurens Methodist Church, Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. Her family loved her cooking, canning and baking. In her spare time, she loved to research genealogy, read, garden, watch the Hawkeyes on TV and play bridge/ cards. June also enjoyed taking trips to North Carolina and California to visit her children and grandchildren. Last year, she and Richard moved to Charlotte, NC, to spend time with their two granddaughters, Sienna and Carissa, whom they cherished.
She is survived by her husband Richard Hopkins; her children: Cathy Stewart and husband William, Constance Hopkins, Trevor Hopkins and wife Carmen; and grandchildren, Sienna and Carissa.
June was the last surviving sibling of the nine children of Mary and Virgil Howard.
