Donald Dammann 1931-2015
A memorial service for Donald Dammann, 83, of Estherville was held Friday, Aug. 21, at the First Christian Church in Estherville. Inurnment was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was charge of arrangements.
Donald A. Dammann, son of Harold and Laura (Bryant) Dammann, was born Nov. 16, 1931, in Emmetsburg. He was a 1950 graduate of Emmetsburg High School.
On May 25, 1953, Don was united in marriage to Lucille Baxter in Emmetsburg. Following his education, Don enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, serving during the Korean War.
After the service, the couple moved to Corning to farm. Later, Don began working for John Deere in Laurens for a while before moving to Estherville where he worked for Deere. After working many years at John Deere, Don opened his own tractor mechanic repair business until his retirement.
Don was a member of the Estherville V.F.W. Post 3388 and the Estherville Bowling Association. Don loved to bowl and he enjoyed attending many bowling tournaments over the years. He almost put in 50 years of bowling. He also loved the game of golf, and he had a hole in one twice!
On Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, Don passed away at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lucille of Estherville; son, Dennis Dammann, and his wife, Rhonda of Viera, FL; daughter, Denise Kinnetz and her husband, Jerry of Emmetsburg; grandchildren: Cheney and Jon Croft, Eric Dammann, Kari Kinnetz, and Andrea and KJ Gray; great-grandchildren: Colin, Charlotte, MacKenzie and Braxton; brother, Dale Dammann, and his wife, Bonnie of Sioux City; sister, Maryann Newman, and her husband, Harley of Omaha, NE; and sister-in-law, Doris Malm of Spencer.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law, Leslie and Gladys Baxter.
