Walter L. Ulrich 1930-2015
Funeral service for Walter Ulrich of Graettinger will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. Pastor Rick Johnson will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Ringsted. The Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Graettinger is in charge of arrangements.
Walter LaVerne Ulrich the son of Robert and Ida (Grund) Ulrich was born April 6, 1930 on a farm near Mallard. He died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Bancroft at the age of 85.
He received his education at a country school graduating from the 8th grade. He then worked at JB Mertz and Son’s John Deere in West Bend and farmed.
On Oct. 22, 1950 he was united in marriage to Delores Ludwig at her parent’s home near West Bend. Following their marriage, the couple lived and began their family near West Bend and farmed until December 1958 when they moved to Graettinger. Walt and Delores farmed until her death in December 2012 and in January 2013 Walt’s health declined and he resided at the Hawkeye Care Center in Bancroft until his death.
Walt enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons, restoring and working on his John Deere tractors, gardening and most of all spending time with family.
Walt was a member of United Methodist Church in Graettinger.
Left to cherish Walt’s memory are his children, Jerry (Donna) Ulrich of Armstrong; Jewell (Alan) Polzin of Laramie, WY; Jeff (Mary Kay) Ulrich of Armstrong; Jon (Jodi) Ulrich of Apple Valley, MN; and Jan Ehmen of Graettinger; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sibling, Marie Bonnstetter of Emmetsburg.
He has been preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores; son, Joe Ulrich; grandson, Scott Polzin; granddaughter, Amy (Ulrich) Anderson; siblings, Annie, Bertha, Frank, Viola and Rosie and other relatives.
