Danny C. Naig 1949-2015
GRAETTINGER — Funeral service for Danny Charles Naig of Graettinger was held Sunday, July 19, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.
Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. The Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger was in charge of arrangements.
Danny Charles Naig was born Jan. 4, 1949, in Estherville, the son of Charley Bertle and June Eileen (Knudson) Naig. He grew up in the Depew and Cylinder area, and he attended Cylinder Schools.
It was during his days at Cylinder High where he met the love of his life, and on July 2, 1966, Danny was united in marriage to Sandy Haack at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary last month.
Danny farmed for many years, and he was a peace officer. After graduating from the police academy in Sheldon, Danny worked as Deputy Sheriff, Chief of Police in Graettinger, and he served on the Drug Task Force for Palo Alto County.
He and Sandy owned and operated Sandans Caf before starting their catering company, Sandans II.
Danny was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Graettinger Business Club and Palo Alto County Cattlemen’s Association. He was active in 4-H where he served as a leader while his children were young. Dan was a generous member of the GT Athletic Boosters. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying: deer hunting, trapping and fishing. Dan’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On July 15, 2016, Dan passed away at his home in Graettinger, at age 66.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sandy; six children: Michelle Naig Eaton (Dean) of Effingham, IL, Jeff Naig (Shalene) of Graettinger, Chad Naig (Troy Eberling) of Salt Lake City, UT, Jonathan Naig of Graettinger, Dana Naig Jacobson (Jason) of Emmetsburg and Rusty Naig (Jamie) of North Liberty; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Linda Brown (Ray) and Sheree Berninghaus (Duane), all of West Bend, and Peggy Peterson (David) of Graettinger;
