Barbara A. Whiting 1942-2015
A Celebration of Life for Barbara “Bee” A. Whiting of Emmetsburg will be held Friday, June 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Ann Whiting, daughter of Ben Frank and Dorris (Pauline) Whiting, was born May 13, 1942 in Oklahoma City, OK. Barbara grew up in a Catholic orphanage and attended St. Thomas and St. Vincent Catholic School through seventh grade. Bee, as she was known to her family and friends, graduated from Ahrens Trade School (High School) in Louisville. Bee attended Oklahoma University for awhile. She was studying to be a nurses aide but Bee was involved in an accident that forced her to quit her studies.
Bee worked as a Public Health Aid, a Treatment Aid as well as a mechanic. When she was in her 40s, Bee suffered a heart attack.
Bee was a talented artist, painting many pictures, some of which were displayed at the Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg. She also loved making beaded necklaces and doing woodworking. Bee was a published author of some of her poetry that she had written. She also enjoyed every opportunity to go fishing.
Bee passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg, at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorris Pauline Whiting; her brother, Joseph Lee Whiting; a cousin, Carl Richard Crone, who was killed in Vietnam; and an aunt and uncle, Paul and Zelma Crone.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Cunningham of Emmetsburg; a nephew, Larry Lee Cunningham of Denver, CO; a cousin, Clifford Crone; as well as other relatives and friends.
