Simon A. Sikora 1930-2014

RUTHVEN — Funeral service for Simon A. Sikora was held Saturday, Feb. 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Concelebrants were Rev. Tom Geelan, Rev. Peter Nguyen and Rev. Richard Ries.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.

Simon A. Sikora, son of Joseph and Teresa (Weber) Sikora, was born July 16, 1930 near Rodman. He attended school in Rodman and graduated from Cylinder High School. After graduating Simon attended radio school in Omaha, NE.

On Jan. 9, 1951, Simon was united in marriage to Patricia Gappa at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore.

Simon did both grain farming and raising livestock for many years in the area. He had also had dairy cattle and sold seed corn for Trelay. Simon did carpentry work as well as custom baling and seeding.

Simon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven and had served on the Ruthven-Ayrshire School Board for several years.

Simon passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and infant sister; his son, Simon; grandson, Shane; son-in-law, Quint Dyer; father-in-law, Charles Gappa.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Spencer; his children, Cheryl Sikora of Ruthven, Diana (Allen) Meyer of Dickens, Kevin (Rhonda) Sikora of Spirit Lake, Ronald (Susan) Sikora of Ruthven, and Angela (Steve) Flint of Ruthven; daughter-in-law, Beth Sikora of Ruthven; a very special friend, Dianne Olson; 13 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Sikora of Ruthven, Kenneth (Margaret) Sikora of Cylinder, and Perry (Karen) Sikora of Wallingford; sisters, Alice Ann (Darol) Underwood of Ringsted, and Shirley Mitchell of Humboldt; mother-in-law, Bernadine Gappa of Spencer; several nieces and nephews.
