Ronald E. Fisher 1930-2013
A Mass of Christian Burial for former Ayrshire resident Ronald E. Fisher of Humboldt was held Saturday, May 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Clem Currans was the Celebrant.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald Edward Fisher was born on Oct. 10, 1930 near Ayrshire to Harold and Marie (Smith) Fisher. Ron grew up on farms in the Ayrshire area and attended country school until 8th grade. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School for two years and graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1949.
He married JoAnn Welch, on Oct. 14, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church in Ayrshire. They moved to the Naber farm east of town and later settled on their own farm between Ayrshire and Curlew.
Ron and JoAnn were grain and livestock farmers. Ron loved Angus cattle and spent many years breeding and raising them. They lived on the farm together until JoAnn’s death in 1999 and Ron stayed there until September 2001, when he moved to Humboldt.
On Feb. 9, 2002, he married Bradeen Short and Ron remained in Humboldt until his death on May 20, 2013.
Ron was very involved in 4-H in Palo Alto county as a leader and as a member of Beef Board, served on the Fair Board, and Youth Council. Ron was employed for 27 years at Farm Service Agency.
Many folks in the community will recall Ron’s visits during the holidays. He loved his job as Santa and spent many years delivering candy and gifts to surprised kids who never expected to see Santa at their door. Christmas became a fav-orite time of year and he worked hard to visit everyone who asked him and drop in on folks who weren’t expecting him.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his wife JoAnn. He is survived by his children, Linda Larson (Gary) of West Des Moines, Jim Fisher (Deb) of Algona and Connie Tusha (Steve) of Waconia, MN; nine grandchildren, Garrett Larson of West Des Moines, Phil Fisher of Des Moines, Stacey Bannor (Jessie) of Des Moines, Gene Fisher (Shaylene) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Yvonne Larson of Minneapolis, MN, Dena Larson of Ames, Alec Larson of West Des Moines, Katherine Tusha of Duluth, MN and Joe Tusha of Waconia, MN. He is the proud great grandfather of Ethan and Emilie of Des Moines and Kaylee and Tristan of Sierra Vista, AZ. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Fisher (Shirley) of Heron Lake, MN, his nephew Steve Fisher of Lakefield, MN and his niece Cindy Fisher of Sheldon.
In 2006 Ron wrote a history of his life for his family which included stories and memories from his childhood to his 76th birthday. The history ended with this sentence: “I have enjoyed my life and hope this writing will help my children and grandchildren remember me in years to come and hopefully they will know something both good and bad about me.”
We will always remember him as a good man who put his family above everything and was the best example we could have of a husband and father.
