Jan 2, 2013

Funeral service for Deborah K. Alderson was held Monday, Dec. 31, at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. John Tomkins officiated.

Burial was in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Deborah Kay Alderson, daughter of Robert “Bob” and Ruth (Wood) Wermersen, was born Nov. 13, 1957 in Emmetsburg. She received her education in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1975. Following high school, Deb was employed at McNally’s Bakeshop for several years.

On Nov. 29, 1979 Deb was united in marriage to William “Bill” Alderson in Emmetsburg. To this union a son, Bradley, was born.

Deb worked at Quality Caf in Emmetsburg and later was bartender at the Shamrock in Emmetsburg and Painted Pony in West Bend. In 2002 Deb began working for McNally Abstract Company where she was employed until her illness forced her to quit working.

Deb enjoyed spending weekends at her cabin on Lost Island Lake, where she would go fishing, swimming, or just sitting outside by the lake. Deb’s family was very important to her. She had a very soft spot in her heart for animals, especially her dogs, Polly and Gunner, who always seemed to be at her side. Her parrot, Benji, often made her laugh at his antics and vocabulary.

Deb passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, at the age of 55.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter and an infant son; her husband, Bill, on Dec. 5, 1985; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Naomi Alderson; and a sister, Tina Wermersen.

Surviving are her son, Bradley Alderson of Emmetsburg; her brother and sisters, Sheila (Gary) Anderson, Vickie (Robert) Schneider, Roberta (Paul) Colsrud, and Rick Wermersen, all of Mallard; several nieces and nephews; her aunt, Betty Johnson of Curlew; as well as many other relatives and friends.
