Evelyn Ann “Lynn”?Loomis 1942-2012

RUTHVEN — Evelyn Ann “Lynn” Loomis was born Aug. 12, 1942 RAF Farnborough, Hants, England. She spent her childhood in Scotland and the Isle of Wight.

She and Dave met while they were both stationed in Suffolk County, England. Lynn was a Senior Aircraftsman (woman) air defense operator at RAF Station Bawdsey, a radar site. They married (in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland) on Sept. 8, 1964. Dave’s career with the U.S. Air Force took them around the world, including assignments in New Mexico, Italy, and Alaska, where they lived for many years, first in Anchorage and later in Fairbanks.

In 1974 Lynn trained to become a chair side dental assistant and spent many years working in dental offices as an assistant or receptionist.

After raising their children, Ian, Heather, and Andrew, she spent some years raising, breeding, and training Australian Shepherds in Fairbanks, under the kennel name Stellar Aussies. She also sewed fleece items and sold them at a farmers’ market in Fairbanks, and was an excellent baker known for her fruit crisps, homemade jam, and mincemeat tarts.

In 2007 Dave and Lynn moved to Ayrshire, IA where she became involved in a local quilting group that made quilts for hospitalized children.

Lynn attended the Church of England in her youth but married into a Lutheran family, and was a member of Syndoulos Lutheran Church (WELS) in Fairbanks, and then Zion Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Ayrshire.

She instilled a strong work ethic in her children and demonstrated selflessness and dedication to her family and to Christ and His church.

She loved a good cup of tea actually many good cups of tea throughout the day and British ‘Quality Street’ chocolate, or See’s candies if the really good stuff was not available.

She is survived by her husband, David Loomis; children and grandchildren, Ian and Ellen Loomis, Tembagapura, Indonesia; Heather and Brian Ivers and grandchildren George, David, and Lauren, Fort Collins, CO; Andrew and Heather Loomis, Ayrshire, IA; Pauline Worner, stepmother, Bath, England; Serena Clark, cousin, of Yeoville, England (Somerset);

Evelyn Loomis died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, in Ayrshire, at the age of 69.

Visitation Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 1, Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven,

Funeral service is Thursday, Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Ayrshire, followed by burial at Silver Lake Cemetery.
