Charles G. Lewis 1931-2011
Funeral service for Charles Gaylord Lewis will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Josh Davenport will officiate.
Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Gaylord Lewis, son of Charles and Hallie (Wood) Lewis, was born Nov. 9, 1931 in Clay County, Iowa. He graduated from Silver Lake Consolidated School in 1949.
Charles served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean Conflict.
On Aug. 1, 1953, Charles was united in marriage to Joanne Mortenson. To this union four children were born.
Charles farmed for several years and did carpentry work. He then went to work for Clay County Road Commission, where he worked until his retirement.
Charles was later married to Marion Lindsey on Dec. 17, 1988, at the Curlew Baptist Church. Charles was a devoted member of the Victory Baptist Church in Spencer.
Charles passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at the age of 79.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Norma Hanson and Debbie Nissen.
He is survived by his wife, Marion of Dickens; his children, David and Peg Lewis of Cylinder, Edward Lewis of Marshalltown, Randy and Cara Lewis of Emmetsburg, Janna Sembach of Spencer, Ronald and Ruth Lindsey of Chesterfield, SC and Kevin and Naia Lindsey of Atlantic; 23 grandchildren; several great grandchildren.
