Dorothy E. Edwards 1922-2011
NORTH PLATTE, NE?– Dorothy Erma Edwards, 89, of North Platte, NE, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.
Dorothy was born on June 18, 1922, near Swea City, the daughter of William Henry and Bertha Mae (Weston) Batt. She and her twin sister Doris were the youngest of 12 children. She attended Algona High School and received her GED many years later from North Platte High School.
On Feb. 5, 1938, Dorothy married Orrin Myron Edwards at West Bend. The family moved to North Platte in 1952, where they spent over 50 years in the same home raising their children, loving their grandchildren and enjoying the many people they have met along the way.
Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Synod in North Platte, where she attended for more than 50 years.
Dorothy is survived by six children: Armin Edwards, Scottsdale, AZ; Carol (Lyle) Robinson, Red Oak; Cherie (Colin) Penny, of Sargent, NE; Linda (Jim) Rudolph, Vickie (Tim) Pleiss and Lori Sprunk, all of North Platte, NE; two sisters, Edith Potter, of Emmetsburg, and Doris Lewis, of Westside; sister-in-law, Delores Gagnon, of Colorado Springs, CO; and brother-in-law, Lyle (Betty) Edwards, of Emmetsburg; 23 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and hundreds of nieces and nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin of 60 years; her daughter, Judy Kay Edwards; son, Larry Dean Edwards; grandson, Norman (Stor-my) Eggert Jr; great-granddaughter, Emily Jane Niles; six brothers, William F. Batt, Robert J. Batt, George E. Batt, John H. Batt, Verne H. Batt and Orville R. Batt; three sisters, Edna F. Batt, Helen (John) Simpson and Ruth (Merv) Haunstein.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte, NE, with Pastor Timm O. Meyer officiating. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011, at West Bend Cemetery in West Bend, with Pastor Robert L. Edwards officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in North Platte, NE. A memorial has been established to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid.
