Vera E. Joyce 1912-2011
HUMBOLDT — Vera E. Joyce, 98, of Humboldt, passed away April 23, 2011 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. Jim Tigges officiating.
The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Joleen Johnson of Humboldt and Marcia “Marty” Huber of West Des Moines; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; grandchild, Jeffrey; and sister, Arlene Blighton.
Veronica Elizabeth Joyce, the daughter of Frank and Lora (Luke) Meyer, was born June 20, 1912 at Conception, MO. When Vera was four years of age, the family moved to Graettinger. She attended country schools at Graettinger and graduated from Emmetsburg High School.
On Oct. 15, 1934 she was united in marriage to Edward Joyce at Graettinger. To this union two daughters were born and the family made their homes in the communities of Emmetsburg, Laurens, and Storm Lake.
Mr. Joyce passed away on July 21, 1967 and shortly after, Vera returned to Emmetsburg. She then moved to Livermore where she helped Father Fandle maintain the rectory. In 1984, Vera made her home at Humboldt where she was a member of St. Mary’s Church and was active in St. Mary’s Society. She enjoyed card playing, quilting, and her volunteer work for Meals On Wheels. Above all, she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.
