John T. Lenertz 1927-2011

A Mass of Christian Burial for John T. Lenertz of Emmetsburg was held Saturday, April 2, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Celebrant was the Rev. Clem Currans.

Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge.

John Theodore Lenertz, son of John Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Kramer) Lenertz, was born June 20, 1927, in St. Joseph. He received his education at the Catholic School in St. Joseph.

On Feb. 4, 1953, John was united in marriage to Joan Giddings in Algona.

John farmed near St. Joseph until 1960. He was employed as a T.V. technician in Humboldt and West Bend and later owned and operated Lenertz Radio and T.V. in Emmetsburg. John also worked at Berkley & Company for seven years, as well as Iowa Lakes Community College and for the Soil Conservation Commission.

John was a member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg and was a former member Knights of the Columbus.

John passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven at the age of 83.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two beloved children, Douglas and Mary; two brothers, Bernard and Alfred; and a sister, Regina.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Ruthven; his children, James (Kathy) Lenertz of Lincoln, NE, Alan (Deb) Lenertz of Spirit Lake, John S. Lenertz of Ruthven, Gerald Lenertz of Emmetsburg, Barbara (Joel) Ehrig of Reinbeck, Diane (Dave) Hatch of Emmetsburg, and Susan (Andy) Krepsky of Ankeny; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Verna Hilbert of Britt; and nieces and nephews.
