Catherine Studer 1928-2011

A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine B. Studer will be held Wednesday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans is Celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation today, Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. with Parish Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kate Bernadette Weir was born Sept.6, 1928 in Whittemore, to Patrick and Helen (Lyons) Weir.

Kate attended St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg. In 1948, she married Martin (Sonny) Studer. Martin and Catherine had five children: Michael, Patricia, Mary Kay, Timothy and Martin, Jr.

Martin, Sr. had a tiling and excavation business and Kate was bookkeeper and office manager for the company. She was active in the V.F.W. Auxiliary and an avid BINGO player.

Kate was a devoted mother and grandmother, family always came first. She loved visits from family and friends and was well known for a good cup of coffee and sage advice.

Catherine Studer passed away April 1, 2011 at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg.

She is survived by sons, Michael and Martin and her favorite son-in-law, Trigger, her daughters, Patricia and Mary Kay (Mike), daughter-in-law, Brenda Studer. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Marge Mills and Arletta Stemple and brother, Ray (Shirley) Weir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Martin and son, Timothy, also brothers, Patrick, Gerald, Frank, John, James and sister Mary, granddaughter, Katie and great grandson, Jacob.
