Donald Laubenthal 1930-2011
Graveside service for Donald Laubenthal of Cylinder is Saturday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday, March 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
Donald Laubenthal, son of Joseph and Barbara (Hartman) Laubenthal, was born Aug. 5, 1930, in Rodman. He received his education in Cylinder, graduating from Cylinder High School in 1950.
Donald served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
On April 12, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Carolyne Kirkwood in Spencer. To this union six children were born. Don was employed by Palo Alto County for 28 years doing road maintenance throughout the county.
He was a member of the Cylinder Fire Department and the Iowa Firemen’s Association.
Don passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his home in Cylinder, at the age of 80.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyne; four brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his children, Joel Laubenthal of Cylinder, Sarah Steffen (Cliff) of Ruthven, Patricia Paskert of Lake Park, Richard Laubenthal (Pat) of Whittemore, Donna Faulkingham (Mike) of Knob Noster, MO, and Susan Stearns of Emmetsburg; ten grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Kerber of Emmetsburg; sisters-in-law, Verna Laubenthal of Emmetsburg, Aileen Laubenthal of Burlington, and Jan Kirkwood of Sioux Center.
