Ruth Gard 1926-2011

Funeral service for Ruth Gard is at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Thomas Geelan is celebrant and the Rev. Clem Currans is concelebrant.

Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Irene Gard, daughter of George and Rose (Shanker) Doyle, was born May 5, 1926, in Emmetsburg. She received her education at St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg.

On Aug. 8, 1960, Ruth was united in marriage to Gerald Gard. Ruth was employed at O’Connor’s Shoe Store and she also worked at several restaurants in the area as well as Ted’s Super Value. Ruth was a very devoted and dedicated member of the Emmetsburg V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was instrumental in cooking the meals served at events at the V.F.W. hall and she worked at BINGO for many years. Ruth enjoyed this group very much. Ruth was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Ruth passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg at age 84.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; brothers and sisters, Joseph Doyle, Herbert Doyle, Catherine Hunter, twins James and Josephine, John Doyle, Mary Geelan, twins Margaret and George, and an infant sibling.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and many friends.
