Marie Pettit 1919-2011
Funeral service for Marie Pettit of Emmetsburg was Monday, Feb. 14, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans officiated.
Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Marie Bernice Pettit, daughter of Clarence and Alice (Conway) Frederick, was born Jan. 5, 1919 in Cylinder. She attended country school and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1936.
On July 19, 1937, Marie was united in marriage to Claude Joseph Pettit at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union eight children were born.
Marie was a very talented, self-taught pianist. She not only accompanied her children when they were performing, but also entertained generations of family and friends with her uncanny ability to play any song request made of her.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.
In 2006 Marie moved to Lakeside Lutheran Home where she has resided for the past four and a half years. She passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Lakeside Lutheran Home, at the age of 92.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude; two daughters, Alice McEvoy Blackstock and Mary Blake; two brothers, Donald and Ralph Frederick; and grandsons Bill Blackstock, Baby Gary Carlisle, and Frank Thomas (Duffy) Fitzsimmons, III.
Marie is survived by her children: Robert Pettit (Kathryn) of Ruthven, Patricia Crowell of Ruthven, Claudia Liessmann Prince (Larry) of Ruthven, Donald Pettit (Mary Ann) of Reno, NV, Claude Pettit, Jr. of Emmetsburg and Thomas Pettit (Shari) of Emmetsburg; a brother, Lee Frederick (Kathleen) of Emmetsburg, 64 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
