Debra Sue Hansen 1953-2011

Funeral services for Debby Hansen were held Saturday, Feb. 12, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven with the Rev. Roger Maize officiating.

Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven with military honors provided by the Ruthven American Legion Post #33.

Debra Sue Hansen was born Sept. 4, 1953, in Spencer, the daughter of Irvin and Barbara (Markley) Hansen. She grew up in Ruthven and graduated from Ruthven High School in 1971. Following high school she attended Iowa Lakes Community College and majored in nursing and on March 29, 1974, she joined the United States Army.

While serving her country as a registered nurse, Debby was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, CO; Bremerhaven Army Hospital in Bremerhaven, Germany; Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, before being honorably discharged Aug. 16, 1995. Debby was very proud of her service in the Army and served her country with honor, dignity and pride.

Debby enjoyed being with her dog, Fluffy, spending time at the lake, reading and doing cross stitch. She was a member of the Ruthven American Legion Post #33 and the First United Methodist Church in Algona.

Debby died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 57.

She is survived by her mother, Barbara of Ruthven; sisters and brothers, Diane Gardner of Sioux City; Denise Ruehle of Ruthven; David (Deborah) Hansen of Algona; Darcy (Gary) Robb of Clarion; Derek Hansen and friend, Ruth Hargrave of Ruthven; Daaron (Amy) Hansen of Spencer; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; special K-9 friend, Fluffy and her many friends and military family.

Preceding her in death were her father, Irvin Hansen; special friend, Frank Tajalle; nephew, Michael John Hansen; paternal grandparents, Nina and Carl Hansen and maternal grandparents, Geraldine and Harvey Markley.

Arrangements were handled by Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona.
