A Mass of Christian Burial for John M. “Jack”?Blake of Emmetsburg was held Monday, Dec. 20, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Concelebrants were the Rev. Clem Currans and the Rev. Eugene Murray.

Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Jack Blake passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was 73.

John M. “Jack”?Blake, son of George and Edith Blake, was born Aug. 4, 1937. He grew up on a farm near West Bend and graduated from West Bend High School. He served in the U.S. Navy, spending two years aboard ship in the Atlantic and one year in the Undersea Warfare Department in the Pentagon building, Washington, D.C.

Jack completed his Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State College, Wayne,?NE, receiving his teaching degree and coaching endorsement. After teaching for several years, Jack began a career in banking, serving as a bank executive for many years at the Laurens State Bank. After retiring, Jack worked at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.

Jack was married to Mary Kane in 1961. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 2011.

Jack loved being with family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a big supporter of his grandchildren in all their activities. He was an avid Emmetsburg E-Hawk fan.

Surviving are his wife, Mary of Emmetsburg; their daughters, Kari Blake-Schany of Emmetsburg, Jackie Jensen (Steve)?of Iowa City and Angi Louscher (Mike)?of Mason City; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Also surviving is his sister, JoAnn Blake (Chuck Landis)?of Delray Beach, FL.

Jack Blake as preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dick and Jean Blake; and a granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Schany.
