A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Crook was held Monday, Dec. 20, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery.

On Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, Irene Crook passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center. She was 91.

Irene Julia Crook, the eldest daughter of Bill and Agnes (Koch) Weir, was born July 31, 1919 in Emmetsburg. She was raised in Emmetsburg and attended St. Mary’s Academy through the 11th grade.

On April 24, 1940, Irene was united in marriage to LeRoy Crook in Emmetsburg where they made their home and raised their family. She worked at Larson’s Produce and Berkley and Company until her retirement.

Irene and LeRoy were the typical “Two Peas in a Pod.” They were never far from one another. Together, they enjoyed dancing, camping, family and each other.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill and Mary Jo of Cylinder; grandchildren, Joleen and Darwin Frideres of Wesley, Ron Crook and Lou Ann of Denison, and Linda and Brian Garman of Whittemore; and six great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Bridget Meinke of Des Moines, Gertrude “Gerty” Lammers of Emmetsburg and Edna “Tooty” Guinn of Graettinger; and her devoted niece, Betty Bleckwenn of Emmetsburg.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy in August of 2009; four brothers; four sisters; and one great-granddaughter.
