Dec 14, 2010

A memorial service for Robert F. Domek of Emmetsburg will be Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the funeral home.

Robert Francis Domek was born Oct. 30, 1934 on a farm east of Depew. He was the son of Raymond and Thresia (Glieden) Domek. He attended early grade school at Presentation Academy in Whittemore and country school before graduating from Ringsted High School in 1952. Bob then attended Coyne Electrical College in Chicago, IL where he graduated in 1953.

On Nov. 9, 1953, Bob was united in marriage to Kay Hauschen in Emmetsburg.

Bob drove truck for many years for Glasstite out of Dunnell, MN. He raised purebred Duroc hogs and boars. Bob also owned his own business with his son-in-law Doug Metz, manufacturing “Roll Aide Extenders” for the funeral industry. Since 1997, Bob worked for Prairie Lakes AEA making regional deliveries to administrative offices.

Bob enjoyed traveling. He made it to every state in the union, and Alaska three times. He especially enjoyed fishing vacations in Talmoon, MN. He was an antique buff, and he loved “Antique Road Show” and “Wheel of Fortune.” Bob would often call Quiz Biz on the radio and was a winner countless times. He will be remembered for his wit and love of people. He was always telling jokes and making others laugh. One of Bob’s favorite pastimes was going out to check on his crops, spending time with the farm dog, Sammy, and picking asparagus in his secret spots.

On Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, Bob passed away at the Hancock County Medical Center in Britt.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay of Emmetsburg; two daughters, Julie Reinders (Doug) and Deb Metz (Doug), all of Emmetsburg; two sons, Tom of Emmetsburg and Jerry (Rita) of Redwood Falls, MN; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
