Mark T. Larson 1957-2010

Funeral service for Mark T. Larson of Emmetsburg was Friday, Dec. 10, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. The Rev. Evelyn Lewiston officiated.

Burial was in Rush Lake Cemetery, Mallard. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mark died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. He was 52.

Mark Theodore Larson, son of Ted and Norma (McCullough)?Larson, as born Dec. 22, 1957, in Emmetsburg. He graduated from Mallard High School and then continued his education at Wayne State College in Nebraska where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Mark taught in Nebraska, Florida and Minnesota, before returning to Emmetsburg where he coached basketball, volleyball and baseball for Emmetsburg Community School. Mark accepted a position at Armstrong-Ringsted School system as their art instructor and coached volleyball and golf. He continued to coach baseball in Emmetsburg for several years.

On July 26, 1991, Mark was united in marriage to Mary Ann Ditch.

Mark had recently published a children’s book and was anticipating the publication of another children’s book he was planning to write with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Emmetsburg; his children, Corey (Abby) Brown of Urbandale, Abbey Brown of Emmetsburg and Brian Brown of Spencer; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are his parents, Ted and Norma Larson of Mallard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Mary Ditch of Emmetsburg; his grandmother, Gladys McCullough of Emmetsburg; brothers, Mike (Joy) Larson of Orange City, Ron (Richelle)?Larson of Mallard, and Rick (Linda)?Larson of Branson, MO; and a sister, Colleen Friedlander of Lehigh, FL.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents.
