Kathryn M. Ulrich 1923-2010

MALLARD — Funeral service for Kathryn Ulrich of Mallard was Monday, Dec. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. The Rev. Evelyn Lewiston officiated.

Burial was in Ellington Cemetery, Mallard. The Harris Funeral Home in Mallard was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ulrich, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at her home in Mallard.

Kathryn Marie McGrauth Ulrich, daughter of William and Julia (Lee)?McGrauth, was born May 23, 1923, in Cylinder. She received her education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1940.

On Oct. 28, 1940, Kathryn was married to Frank Ulrich at the Methodist parsonage in Emmetsburg. Kathryn and Frank lived and farmed their entire lives in the Mallard area. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in October, surrounded by family and friends.

Kathryn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mallard. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery and playing cards. She often commented that even if given the chance, she wouldn’t change a thing about Frank, her children or her life.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; sons and daughters:?Judy (Cliff)?Barber of Omaha, NE, Ruth Halder of Omaha, NE, Bob (Karen) Ulrich of Armstrong, Betty (Robert)?Barber of Algona, Janet (Ed)?Leuer of Camp Verde, AZ, Bill Ulrich of Mallard, Mary (Brent) Hilton of Cylinder, Nancy Busse and special friend Dick of Clinton, Sandy Henderson and special friend Paul of Graettinger, David Ulrich of Mallard, Deb (Jeff)?Falkena of Albert City, and Darryl (Tory) Ulrich of West Bend; 28 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, William “Junior”?(Jan) McGrauth of Emmetsburg, and a sister, Joann (Gordon)?Gjere of St. Paul, MN.

Kathryn was preceded in death by a son, Jim; grandson, Adam; and son-in-law, Jack Halder.
