Helen M. Berger 1924-2010
RUTHVEN — Funeral service for Helen Berger of Ayrshire was Saturday, Nov. 13, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Berger died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Spencer Municipal Hospital. She was 86.
Helen Marie Berger, daughter of Samuel E. Dyer III and Anna T. (Olson), was born Oct. 23, 1924, northeast of Ayrshire. She attended Barber and Great Oak country schools and graduated from Ayrshire Consolidated High School.
On Feb. 6, 1940, Helen was married to Charles A. Berger in Emmetsburg. To this union 15 children were born.
Helen dedicated her life to raising her children, caring for her parents and assisting friends and neighbors in need. ?She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. She taught Sunday School for many years and was active in church youth activities. Helen served on various church committees and served as a volunteer at the Emmetsburg Senior Center and the Ruthven Community Care Center.
She is survived by her children: Bob Berger (Kathy) of ?Gillett Grove, Rich Berger (Harriet)?of Gillett Grove, Loretta Buchanan (Gary) of Roseburg, OR, Diane Hoben (Brad) of Sanford, FL, Roland Berger (Melody)?of Wathena, KS, LaVonne Eldridge (Dave) of Graettinger, Joan Hanson (Ron) of Ruthven, Loren Berger of Sandstone, MN, Doug Berger (Jessica) of Ruthven, Randy Berger (Kim) of Hartley and Janet Noll (Shane) of Milford; daughter-in-law, Kathy Berger of Aryshire; son-in-law, Pete Knutson of Pocahontas; 42 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Richard Dyer of Ayrshire; and a sister, Genevieve Burger of Gillett Grove.
Mrs. Berger was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Lois; her husband, Charles; a daughter, Marlene Knutson; sons, Samuel and James Berger; infant brother, Ronald; and a sister, June.
