Doris Helgeson 1921-2010
Funeral service for Doris J. Helgeson of Emmetsburg was Friday, Nov. 12, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Steve Ellerbusch officiated.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Helgeson, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.
Doris Helgeson, daughter of Kenneth Linton and Esther Marion (Breffle)?Clark, was born April 15, 1921, on a farm west of Emmetsburg. She began her education in country school. After eight years she attended Emmetsburg High School, graduating in 1938. She then attended Emmetsburg Junior College.
On Sept. 15, 1940, Doris and Clarence Helgeson were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed and raised their family on a farm northwest of Emmetsburg.
She was a member of the neighborhood sewing club, Bethany Lutheran Church, ladies aid and circles. Doris also served as a 4-H leader for many years. In 1977, Doris and Clarence moved to Emmetsburg.
Survivors include her children, Paul (Judy)?Helgeson, Connie Helgeson, Judith (Dick) Hughes, Nancy Helgeson and Clayton (Shirleen)?Helgeson; grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Clark; and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Helgeson was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law; her husband; a son, Steven; a sister, Lois Lavon; brothers, Lee and Max; and sisters-in-law, Carrie (Mike)?Miller, Trudy (Carmen)?Miller, Thelma Bell, Marguerite (Gilbert)?Gjerde, and Ruth (Harry)?Wilson.
