Dick Young 1927-2010
ALGONA — Dick Young of Algona, died on Tuesday Nov. 2, 2010 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. He was 83.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. The Rev. Mr. William Black officiated. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery.
Dixon Kay Young, the son of Loyal Sterling and Fern (Andrews) Young, was born on March 23, 1927 in Algona. He graduated from Algona High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.
Dick was united in marriage with Shirley Rose Miller on April 6, 1948 in St. Benedict. Dick farmed all of his life, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, sports and being outdoors.
Left to cherish Dick’s memory are his wife of 62 years, Shirley; four children, Clinton Richard Young and his wife Sue of Emmetsburg, Renee Ann Rochleau and her husband Ron of Whittemore, Kristie Rose Zimmerman and her husband Al of Whittemore and Darrick Robert Young and his wife Karen of Emmetsburg; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Keith Fay Young and his wife Marilyn of Cedar Falls; and a brother-in-law, Lester Godden of Clear Lake.
Dick Young was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean LaVon Godden.
