Josephine Dugan 1912-2010
Josephine Dugan of Emmetsburg passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven. She was 97.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, with the Rev. Clem Currans Celebrating.
Interment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Josephine Dugan, the daughter of Patrick and Nellie McNamara Dugan, was born Dec. 3, 1912 at home on the family farm near Emmetsburg. Josephine graduated from high school in the Emmetsburg area.
In her early years, she helped on the family farm. Subsequently, she worked at various places including dental and doctor’s offices and various nursing homes. In her later years, she took care of her mother after they moved back to their farm near Emmetsburg.
Josephine had a great love for nature and animals of all kinds, especially cats. Josephine was a typical Irish woman who enjoyed Irish music and a pint of beer on occasion. She also gave quite generously to various charities. Josephine also had a great love of dancing to the Big Band Era music.
Many cousins, relatives and friends survive her.
Her parents, Patrick Dugan in 1913, Nellie Dugan in 1986, and her brother James Dugan in 1924, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA in Josephine’s memory.
