DeWayne Titus 1936-2010

CEDAR RAPIDS — DeWayne Orville Titus, 74, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 from complications of congestive heart failure.

Service was Friday, Oct. 15, at Hillside Wesleyan Church by Pastor J. Richard Ernst.

Burial at Fairfield Cemetery in Albert City on Saturday, Oct. 16m with military services by the American Legion Honor Guard Post #727. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

DeWayne is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, Lt. Col. Timothy (Kelly), PhD, of Flagstaff, AZ and Thomas (Susan) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Jennifer (Douglas) Attema of Pella and Joy (David) Bagley of Upland, IN; 14 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Also surviving are his twin brother, Rev. Dean (LaVon) of Story City, brother, Dale of Estherville Nursing Home; sister, Rosemary “Susie” Jacob of Marshall, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

DeWayne is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis (2000) and several brothers-in law and sisters-in-law.

DeWayne was born July 17, 1936 in Albert City the son of Wayne and Irene Johnson Titus. He was a graduate of Mallard High School and served in the United States Army, stationed in Okinawa for 14 months. He married Alice Schaeffer on Jan. 1, 1962 in Swea City. DeWayne farmed before working for the U.S. Department of Defense retiring after 31 years.

DeWayne was a member of Hillside Wesleyan Church, NARFE #133, AFGE #2752, Neuropathy Support Group, National Arbor Society and AARP. He was an avid gardener and loved working on his acreage.
