John Dean Sandmeier

McCALLSBURG — John Dean Sandmeier of McCallsburg died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. He was 81.

Graveside service was Monday, Oct. 4, at the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg. Pastor Scott Jones officiated.

John was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Oskaloosa to Matthew A. and Rebecca A. (Moody) Sandmeier. On Sept. 12, 1948, John was married to Donna Darlene Hoel in Nevada.

John retired after 42 years from Rock Island Railroad as a railroad telegrapher. He was a member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge #99, A.F. &?A.M. John enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing and woodworking.

John is survived by his wife, Donna Sandmeier of McCallsburg; three daughters, Nancy (Ted) Meredith of Loveland, CO, Linda (Rick) Jones of Emmetsburg and Becky (Steve) Caster of McCallsburg; seven grandchildren, Matthew Caster, Mark Caster, Kari Jones, Jeff Jones, Brooke Jones, Mackenzie Meredith Affrunti and Tyson Meredith.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Warren Sandmeier.

A memorial fund has been established in John Sandmeier’s name at the Israel Family?Hospice House in Ames.
