Lloyd Simonson died peacefully under the care of Iowa Hospice at the Ruthven Community Care Center on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at the age of 91.
Lloyd had lived at the RCCC since March 2009. Lloyd had been a life long resident of Palo Alto County. He was born in Lost Island Township to John and Lena Simonson.
He married Alice Henningsen (Chas and Alma Henningsen’s daughter) and his career involved farming the Henningsen homeplace. Lloyd loved the land and took great interest in being a steward of the land.
Lloyd was actively involved in several organizations that touched Palo Alto residents lives — planting trees, placing benches, serving on the REC board, remodeling the Graettinger Senior Center. Lloyd took great pride in taking on a project and completing it.
Lloyd’s passion after 1991, became service to the Lost Island Cemetery, where his wife Alice was buried. Lloyd loved his daily drives in the country that continued through 2008, when age started catching up with him.
Lloyd’s children, Sandra, Phil, and Rhonda, now all live out of state — but truly Lloyd chose to surround himself with his Palo Alto family.
Memorials are being directed to Ruthven Community Care Center/Iowa Hospice.
