Thomas H. Guess 1927-2010
Thomas H. Guess was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Plover, the son of Earl and May (Smith)?Guess. He attended school in Plover. Following his education, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during World War II.
On June 23, 1949, Tom Guess and Marvyl Krebs were married in Rolfe. Tom was a well known drainage contractor most of his active life. He retired in 1990.
Tom enjoyed playing cards, reading and watching television. An avid outdoorsman, Tom loved to hunt and fish when all of the work was finished.
On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, Tom Guess passed away at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. He was 82.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marvyl of Emmetsburg; five children:?Chris Smith (Charles) of Indianola, Neil Guess (Diane) of Newton, Deborah Halvarson (Ed) of Rapid City, SD, Brian Guess of Mankato,?MN and Lynn Skinner (Brad)?of Red Oak; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mary Rubis of Golden Valley, AZ, along with many nieces and nephews.
Tom Guess was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth and Pat; and two brothers, Lester and David.
A visitation for Thomas Guess of Emmetsburg will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Instead of flowers, a memorial has been established in Tom’s name.
