Mildred Jameson 1907-2010

Mildred Jameson, 103, of Ankeny, formerly of Emmetsburg, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 in Ankeny.

Funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a C.D. of A. Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Mildred Rose Jameson was born Mildred Rose Powers on Jan. 2, 1907 to John and Mary Powers of Lohrville. After finishing high school she entered teacher training and taught for a number of years in the rural schools of Calhoun County. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Fortnitely Club and the VFW Auxiliary. 

Mildred married Quentin J. Jameson in 1934 and they settled in Emmetsburg in 1942. After the death of Mr. Jameson she returned to college and graduated from Drake University  and began teaching again. She taught in the Mallard Parochial school and later in the Emmetsburg Catholic schools.

After retiring Mildred started a small day care center in her home. She also babysat at the Methodist Church on Sunday for over 25 years. She retired and moved to Des Moines to be near her sons and eventually resided at the Millpond Retirement Community in Ankeny until her death.

Mildred Jameson was preceeded in death by her parents; a brother, Vincent Powers; and two sisters, Bernice Quinn and Marie Lynch; as well as her son, Richard James Jameson. 

Mrs. Jameson is survived by her sons, Robert Jameson of Amelia Island, FL, John Jameson of Ankeny, and Thomas Jameson of Johnston; as well as 15 grandchildren and 20 great grand children.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Family Parish in Mildred’s name.
