Bernell C. Douglass, Jr. of Fort Dodge passed away July 10, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Emmet, ID.

Memorial services were held at the Lighthouse Church in Fort Dodge on Saturday, July 24. Private graveside rites were held at Riverside Cemetery near Rodman.

Bernell was educated at Rodman and Rolfe high schools, and he graduated at Bradgate in 1939. He then joined the CCC’s.

Bernell was married to Kathleen King of Emmetsburg with whom he had four children.

Bernell was a licensed Ham radio operator. He was interested in building and repairing early radios and TVs. As an electrician he wired many homes and farmsteads in Palo Alto and Kossuth Counties.

Bernell went to live with his daughter a few weeks before his death. He had wonderful care in her home with hospice aid.

His Bible was his main reading material and was his constant companion.

Survivors include sons Larry (Leslie) of Watsonville, CA, Roger (Mary) and Tom (Anita), both of Fort Dodge, and a daughter, Susan (Paul) Rusk of Emmet, ID. He also leaves to mourn, his sister Adeline McQuown of West Bend, and sister-in-law Helen Douglass of Walker, MN; 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.C. Douglass Sr. and Gladys Carpenter Douglass; one brother, Rollyn B. Douglass and his late wife, Kathleen.
