Scrimmage Time

School bells have rung throughout the county and with the start of classes for the year, thoughts are now directed towards the Fall Sports Seasons. All four schools in Palo Alto County will provide their volleyball and football fans with pre-season scrimmages this Friday night in preparation for the start of competition next week.

Emmetsburg Schedule

Emmetsburg High School will start its Pre-season scrimmage event with the annual E-Hawk Football Tailgate BBQ?Fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. in the high school commons. The meal of burgers, hot dogs, chips and drink is served on a free will donation basis and will be offered from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Coach Andrea Accola-Sabin and the Lady E-Hawks will scrimmage in the high school gymnasium starting at 6 p.m. on Friday evening. The Lady E-Hawks will play their official season opening contest on Thursday, Aug. 26, at Manson Northwest Webster.

The annual student-athlete parents meetings with coaches of the Fall Spors will take place Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the high school.

The action will shift to the turf of Duane Twait Field at 7:45 p.m. with the E-Hawk Football Scrimmage.

The Freshman under Coach Tyler Beving will take to the field for introductions and a 12-minute quarter of play at 7:45 p.m. Coach Dave Fog’s E-Hawk Sophomores will be introduced and play their scrimmage at 8:00 p.m.

At 8:45 p.m., Coach Mike Dunlap and the E-Hawk varsity will be introduced and will play two quarters of scrimmage action for the Black and White squads.

The 2010 gridiron season will then begin on Friday, Aug. 27 with a trip to Estherville to meet up with old rivals, the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central.

For the Emmetsburg Football or Volleyball scrimmages, admission to the event will be one bottle of sports drink, such as Gatorade or Poweraide per person.

West Bend-Mallard Schedule

The West Bend-Mallard Wolverines and Lady Wolverines will provide a glimpse of what is to come in the approaching seasons on Friday night.

Coach Kelly Menninga and the Lady Wolverines will scrimmage at 4 p.m. Friday in the West Bend-Mallard High School gym.

As part of the annual scrimmage event, the Wolverine Booster Club will once again sponsor its annual barbecue supper in the park adjacent to the high school football field, with serving beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Pete Kapustynski and the Wolverine Football team will scrimmage for their fans starting at 7 p.m..

West Bend-Mallard fans attending the football or volleyball scrimmages will also be asked for a donation of a bottle of sports drink, such as Gatorade or Poweraide per person for admission.

Ruthven-Ayrshire Schedule

The Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire will give their fans a  hint of what lies ahead in the coming year with their pre-season scrimmages on Friday night.

Coach Kim Sierck and the Raider Volleyball program will scrimmage in the Ruthven-Ayrshire High School gym starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and continuing until 6:15 p.m. The focus will then shift to the Ruthven-Ayrshire Football Field for the unveiling of the Raider Football Team, under the guidance of Head Coach Larry Swingen. The Raiders will start their scrimmage action at 7 p.m.

Ruthven-Ayrshire fans attending the volleyball or football scrimmages will be asked to donate one bottle of sports drink, such as Gatorade or Poweraide per person.

The Ruthven-Ayrshire Booster Club will sponsor a free meal for all team members, parents, cheerleaders, coaches, managers and statisticians and administrators beginning at 6 p.m.

Graettinger/Terril Schedule

Both the volleyball and football programs at Graettinger/Terril High School will have their chance to give their fans a little taste of the upcoming season with scrimmages on Friday night.

Coaches Jeff Sansgaard and Tiffany Johnston will showcase the Knight netters through a scrimmage beginning at 5 p.m. in the Graettinger/Terril High School Gym in Graettinger.

The evening will culminate at Evergreen Park with the annual Football Scrimmage, as Coach Karlton Hector’s Knights will scrimmage starting at 7 p.m.

Admission to the volleyball and football scrimmages at Graettinger/Terril will be one bottle of sports drink, such as Gatorade or Poweraide per person.

Photo Opportunities

If you want photos of your favorite player, there are photo opportunities as well.

West Bend-Mallard will host photo day at 2 p.m. this afternoon (Thursday) with volleyball photos, with football photos to follow.

At Ruthven-Ayrshire, volleyball photos are planned for 4:45 p.m. and the football team to follow on Friday,

For the Knights of  Graettinger/Terril, volleyball photos will take place at 3:45 p.m. Friday, with football photos at 5 p.m..
