Dorothy Hamilton 1923-2010

A memorial service for Dorothy Hamilton of Emmetsburg will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Cylinder. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m.  

On Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, Dorothy passed away peacefully at her home in Emmetsburg. She was 87.

Dorothy Geraldine Hamilton was born June 6, 1923, in Cylinder, the daughter of Theodore and Elsie (Lawrence) Naig. She attended Cylinder Schools and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1941.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Thomas Hamilton on Aug. 26, 1946, in Estherville. Together, Dorothy and Tom ran Hamilton’s T.V. where Dorothy took care of the bookkeeping.

Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was very active in the ladies aide.  She enjoyed crocheting, baking, reading, working crossword puzzles and playing cards. Dorothy loved to spend time with family and friends, and she always looked forward to visits from her many nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister, JoAnn Twait (Arden) of Emmetsburg;  brother-in-law, Donald Twait of Alexandria, MN; sister-in-law, Marjorie Jenson (Dale) of Ringsted; four nieces, Marjean Johnson (Lee) of Emmetsburg, Gloria Weiner (Jim) of LaCross, WI, Susan Wilson (Darwin) of Ringsted and Julie Laubenthal (Al) of Emmetsburg; six nephews, Wayne Twait of Emmetsburg, Kenneth and Craig Twait, both of Alexandria, MN, Gary Twait of Oceanside, CA, Michael Naig (Betty) of Emmetsburg and Timothy Twaiten (Ruth) of Emmetsburg; 19 great-nieces and nephews and 25 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tom in April of 2001; two infant sons, Donald and Robert Hamilton; brothers, Truman and Donald Naig; and sister, Marjorie Twait.
