Alan W. Meyer 1967-2010
Al Meyer, of Iowa Falls, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at his home. This was after a long, couragous battle with melanoma.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with burial at a later date in Whittemore.
Alan William Meyer was born on Jan. 1, 1967 to Thomas and Wilma (Schmeling) Meyer in Emmetsburg. Alan graduated from Buffalo Center-Rake High School and then attended college at Waldorf, Dana, and St. Louis University. While at Waldorf College and Dana College, Alan was on the football team playing as their hard-hitting free safety.
On Aug. 6, 1988, Alan was united in marriage to Kris Grimes in Buffalo Center. From 1994 to 2002, Alan was the C.F.O. of Greenbelt Bank & Trust. He later became manager at Highland Golf Club.
Alan was involved in the National Wildlife Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, wood working, coaching boy’s booster basketball, and spending quality time with his children.
Alan is survived by his wife Kris; sons Alex, Kyle, and Luke Meyer; daughters Katie and Ellie Meyer; a brother Randy (Abby) Meyer and a niece Lilly Meyer of Sheffield.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Wilma Meyer, grandparents Leonard and Lillian Meyer, and grandparents Otto and Norma Schmeling.
