Roger VanCleave 1952-2010

Funeral service for Roger VanCleave of Emmetsburg will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger. Burial will be at a later date.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home in Graettinger.

Roger Dean VanCleave was born Oct. 20, 1952 in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Edith (Stark) VanCleave. Roger was a graduate of Sloan High School.

Following his education, Roger drove truck for 18 years before moving to the Emmetsburg and Graettinger area where he worked in manufacturing as a welder. He worked for many years at Shaver Manufacturing in Graettinger, and Roger took a position at Polaris in Spirit Lake.

Roger was a member of the Pony Express Riders of Iowa. He enjoyed driving truck, working on cars and spending time with his family. 

On Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, Roger passed away at Lakes Regional Healthcare Center in Spirit Lake. He was 57.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Kyle (Kayleen Baldwin), and Casey (Ashleigh Newkirk ), all of Estherville, and Jesse of Emmetsburg; Roger’s significant other, Alice Manwarren; two brothers, Jesse (Sue) of Mapleton, and Ken of Omaha, NE; three sisters, Diane Deck (Ken) of Newmanstown, PA, Mary Ann Lussier (Randy) of Hubbard, NE and Debbie Mead (Bill) of Dows City; his newborn granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth VanCleave; and his ex-wife, DeEtta Koen of Estherville.

Mr. VanCleave was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruby Monahan.
