Vernita A. Vaudt 1931-2010

Funeral service for Vernita Vaudt of Emmetsburg was Saturday, July 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Nicholas Thackery officiated.

Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Whittemore. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge.

Mrs. Vaudt died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was 78.

Vernita Amanda (Zumach)?Vaudt, daughter of Reinhard and Amalia (Neitzel)?Zumach, was born Sept. 19, 2010, at the family home near Whittemore. She attended grade school at St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Whittemore High School in 1950.

Following high school Vernita was employed at Bell Telephone Company as an operator.

Vernita married Harlan “Rusty”?Vaudt on Aug. 19, 1951, and the couple made their home in Whittemore. Their first son, Robin, was born in December 1952, followed by Ricky in January 1955 and Ronnie in September 1961.

The Vaudts moved to a farm six miles southeast of Emmetsburg in 1962 where Vernita was active helping on the farm. In 1972, the family moved to North Superior Street in Emmetsburg where Vernita resided until her death.

Vernita worked at Berkley’s, Emmetsburg Publishing Company, and most recently at SNC until it closed this year.

Vernita was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and other church organizations. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, bird watching, traveling and gathering with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Harlan, of Emmetsburg; her children, Rob (Linda)?of Gig Harbor, WA, Rich (Rhonda)?of Ravenna, OH, and Ron (Mazy)?of Huntsville, TX; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Vernita Vaudt was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Ronald, in infancy, and Melvin and Marcus Zumach.
