Mary M. VanOosbree 1920-2010

Funeral service for Mary M. VanOosbree of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans will be the Celebrant.

Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The ?Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday, July 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary is at 4 p.m. and a Parish Vigil service is at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. VanOosbree died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at PARC?Hall in Emmetsburg. She was 89.

Mary Margaret VanOosbree, daughter of Patrick J. and Catherine (Higgins)?Rielly, was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Rock Valley. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and Rock Valley High School, graduating in 1939. Mary continued her education at Western Union College in LeMars where she received her teaching certificate.

Mary taught country school near Rock Valley for two years. On Dec. 28, 1942, Mary and Chris J. VanOosbree were married at the Naval Chapel in Corpus Christi, TX.

In 1948, Chris and Mary moved to Emmetsburg. Mary was employed as a Kindergarten Assistant at South Elementary School for 18 years. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also active in the VFW Post #2295 Women’s ?Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children:?Jim and Deb VanOosbree of Rochester, MN, Mary Therese and Theron Morley of Omaha, NE, John and Jackie VanOosbree of Emmetsburg, Jerry and Judy Van Oosbree of Adams, MN, Tom VanOosbree of Madison, WI, Patricia VanOosbree of Whittier, CA, Fr. Chris VanOosbree of St. Louis, MO, David and Katie VanOosbree of Emmetsburg, Mike VanOosbree of Emmetsburg, Mark and Jeanne VanOosbree of Maple Grove, MN, Paul and Vicky VanOosbree of Mayer, MN, and Cathy and Kevin Twait of Manson; 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, John (Bud) Rielly of Houston, TX and James P. Rielly of Oskaloosa.

Mrs. VanOosbree was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Joseph; two sisters, Patricia Boucher and Rose Cheever; her husband, Chris; and daughter-in-law, Helen Van Oosbree.
