Johnny Buhsmann 1933-2010

Funeral service for Johnny Buhsmann of Mallard is 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Evelyn Lewiston, from the United Methodist Church in Mallard, will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg.

Visitation is after 2 p.m. today, Thursday, June 24, at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Mr. Buhsmann died Monday, June 21, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Laurens. He was 77.

Johnny Russell Buhsmann was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Mallard, the son of John Harms and Ruth Eldora (Magee)?Buhsmann. He received his education in the Mallard school system.

Following high school, Johnny enlisted  in the U.S. Navy and later the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War.

On July 29, 1963, Johnny Buhsmann and Sandra Jean Halstead were married in Jackson, MN. The couple lived in Palo Alto County and Johnny worked for area farmers. He was employed at PamLine in Emmetsburg until they closed. Johnny then went to work at the Spencer Pack until it closed. He was then employed at the Rendering Works and most recently at Fisher Hydraulics in Laurens. After his accident, Johnny was forced to leave Fisher’s in 1990.

Johnny was a life member of VFW Post #2295.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Mallard; children, Joanna Buhsmann (boyfriend, Scott)?of Pocahontas, Corrina Buhsmann of Laurens, Rhonda Vandenhemel (John) of Curlew and Barbara Schreiner (Brad)?of Wausau, NE; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Ruby Stauffer of Oelwein.

Johnny Buhsmann was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Shelia “Muff”?Manwarren and Mary Buhsmann; a son, John Harms Buhsmann; four grandsons, John Boy, Christopher, Steven and James, Jr.; and his brothers, Frank Wilson, Cecil George and George Cecil.
