Ardis D. McConnaughy

Ardis Deloris McConnaughy of Phoenix, AZ, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Odyssey Hospice of Peoria, AZ. She was 77.

The first of nine children, Ardis Deloris Clinton was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Minot ND, the daughter of Orville G. Clinton and Dorothy E. Woodbeck. She attended schools in Armstrong, Dolliver and Estherville.

Ardis worked at an insurance office in Des Moines. She moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 1970 and attended school to get her license for the state of Arizona’s County Assessor. She worked as a County Assessor in Holbrook, AZ, then a County Assessor in Payson, AZ, until she retired in 1997,

Ardis was a member of the Red Hat Club. She loved to travel and was known as a CB’er. To many she was known as “Boots.” Wherever she went Ardis always made a friend and always had a kind word for everyone.  

She married William Howard King Jr. in June 1950. They had two children, David Allen King and Jackie Aleane King. After being widowed for five years she married Miles G. McConnaughy in April 1996 in Buckeye, AZ.

Ardis is survived by; her son David A. King (wife Kathi) of Goodyear, AZ, and her daughter Jackie A. (King) Larkin (husband Robert) of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, two brothers, six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and many friends that she loved.

Memorial services will be held at the Liberty Methodist Church, Liberty, AZ, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12. Ardis’ niece, Nancy Gardner of Coolidge, AZ, will officiate. A reception will follow.
