Frances M. Leners 1908-2010

Funeral service for Frances M. Leners is 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, June 8, at the Holy Family Parish Center in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Tom Geelan of Ruthven will officiate.

Casket bearers are Frances’ grandchildren. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangement.

Mrs. Leners died Friday, June 4, 2010, at PARC?Hall,  Emmetsburg, at age 101.

Frances Mary Leners was born Aug. 4, 1908, in Green Lake, WI, the oldest daughter of John and Clara (Korleski) Fude. She was baptized Aug. 23, 1908, in the Catholic Church in Green Lake. As a  young girl, Frances moved with her parents to the farm near Cylinder and graduated from country school. She was confirmed Oct. 16, 1924, at St. Michael’s Church in Whittemore.

On Feb. 28, 1927, Frances and Mike Leners were married. The couple farmed near Irvington until 1941 when they purchased their farm near Emmetsburg. To this marriage were born seven children: John Michael, Joseph Donald, James Francis, Michael Marvin, Harold Nicholas, Vincent Edwin, and Karen Marie.

Frances enjoyed being a part of the Freedom Township Women’s Club and Birthday Club for many years. Frances excelled at being a good mother and grandmother, and was a splendid homemaker, cook and gardener. She was also a contented resident of PARC?Hall for almost ten years after a paralyzing stroke.

Surviving are her sons, Joseph of Conroe, TX, and Vincent of Emmetsburg; 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike; sons, John, James, Michael and Harold; and daughter, Karen; siblings, Margaret Fude, William Fude, Rose Nelson, Marian Sherer, Harold Fude, Florence Duffy, Magdalyn Fude and Gerald Fude; a grandson, Thomas Joseph Leners; and a great granddaughter, Shannon Marie Elsbecker.
