Doris Johnson 1907-2010
Memorial service for former Curlew resident Doris Johnson of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Grace Baptist Church in Emmetsburg. Pastor Curtis DeFord will officiate.
Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Private family inurnment will be in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson died Jan. 30, 2010, at age 102.
Doris Johnson, daughter of Andrew and Josephine Gross, was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Curlew. She received her education in Curlew and graduated from Emmetsburg High School.
Doris and Emery “Shorty” Johnson were married Jan. 4, 1927, in Emmetsburg. The couple lived and farmed mostly in the vicinity of Curlew for many years.
Doris was a member of the Curlew Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She had also sung in the All County Choir for many years.
Survivors include her sons, Richard “Dick”?Johnson of Mallard and Gerald “Jerry”?Johnson and his wife, Liz, of Curlew; four grandchildren, Stephen Johnson of Mesa, AZ, LeAnna Swalley of Sheldon, Rick (Betsy)?Johnson of Estherville and Robbie (April)?Johnson of Curlew; seven great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Edra Hubbel of Curlew.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Emery; seven sisters, Leah, Grace, Fay, Alberta, Stella, Gay and Gladys; two brothers, Russell and Dwight; a daughter-in-law, Ilah Johnson; and a grandson, Alan Johnson.
