Marcella Urich 1915-2010

 WHITTEMORE — Memorial Mass for Marcella “Suds” Urich was celebrated Saturday, May 8, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore with Father Victor Ramaeker officiating.

Inurnment will be at a later date in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.

Marcella “Suds” Urich was born in Whittemore on July 30, 1915, to Bridget (Mulroney) and John S. Cullen, the youngest of 12 children. She graduated from Presentation Academy in Whittemore in 1934, and opened Cullen’s Beauty Shop in Whittemore.

On Jan. 19, 1942, Marcella was united in marriage to Paul Urich. She operated Urich Variety Store when Paul was in the service from 1942 to 1945. She later worked for many years at Honsbruch Drug Store in Algona. Suds and Paul lived in the Cullen family home and raised their family there.  After Paul’s death in 1992, she lived in the home until 1993; in 1998 she moved from Whittemore to Omaha to live with her oldest daughter, Mary.

Marcella "Suds" Urich died on May 4, 2010, at Bishop Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Jerry) Elbert and granddaughter Brigid Elbert of Omaha, NE; by her grandson Zach Elbert in Chicago, IL, and by her daughter, Moira (Lanny) Brown of Madison, WI.

She was predeceased by all of her siblings; by her daughter, Peggy in 1982; and by her husband, Paul, in 1992.

Arrangements were handled by the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Whittemore.
