Darrel Wickman 1937-2010
Funeral service for Darrel Wickman of Emmetsburg will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery near Rodman.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., today, Tuesday, at the funeral home in Emmetsburg.
Mr. Wickman, 73, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
Darrel Wickman was born March 30, 1937 in Emmetsburg, the son of Ralph and Bertha Mae (McQuown) Wickman. He attended Rodman Community Schools.
On July 17, 1955, Darrel Wickman and Marilyn Claude were married in West Bend.
Darrel drove truck before operating heavy equipment. He worked many years as a mechanic, and together with Marilyn, they sold used furniture at the Havelock Corner. In 1981, Darrel purchased Wickman Auto-Salvage with his son, Jim. He retired in 1990.
Darrel enjoyed racing, watching the birds and squirrels and country music. He loved his dog, Shelby and spending time with all of his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Deb Nissen and husband, Jim of Emmetsburg; four sons, Dean and wife, Dawn of Wallingford, Jim and wife, Deb of Emmetsburg, Bruce and wife, Maria of Emmetsburg and David and wife, Kelly of Emmetsburg; four brothers: Ron of Rodman, Larry and wife, Marvella of Emmetsburg, Mervin of Britt, and John of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wickman was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judy Hubbell; grandson, Trevor Wickman; and two brothers, Ralph Wickman, Jr. and Jerry Wickman.
