Orvilla C. Pills 1918-2010

SCHOFIELD, WI — Orvilla Caroline (Kallestad) Pils died at Saint Clare’s Hospital on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from complications of living to the age of 92 years young.

She was born on March 3, 1918 in West Bend to the late Nels and Bertha Kallestad. Orvilla grew up on the family farm and attended school in Rodman.

On June 23, 1935 Orvilla was married to Herman Pils, a fireman from Chicago, IL. They resided in Chicago to raise their two children, Robert and Charles. Later, she worked in downtown Chicago for Time-Life Magazine which she often remembered as a wonderful experience.

Herman and Orvilla retired to live in Schofield, WI, in 1964. Orvilla was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau, serving in the choir, women’s circles and the ILCW for many years. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was one of the founding members of the Wausau chapter of Sons of Norway.

Mrs. Pils is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Herman; and her siblings Matt (Lila) Kallestad; Oscar (Leora) Kallestad; Mildred (Ike) Darrah and Esther (Larry) Lariviere.

Orvilla is survived by her sons, Robert (Bonnie) Pils, Schofield, WI and Charles (Linda) Pils, Madison, WI; and her brother Harold (Alice) Kallestad, Marshalltown. She is further survived by her grandchildren; Gregory (Isabel) Pils, Andrew Pils, Alan (Ginger) Pils and Kristi (Brian) Schulz; three great-granddaughters, Carson and Scarlett Schulz and Alexandra Pils; and many nieces and nephews.

Orvilla was a most giving and loving person. She gave her time and hospitality generously throughout her life. Her family was most important to her. Cooking delicious meals for them was high on her list of priorities. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all.

Services were Friday, March 12, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wasuau, WI.
