Rena Mae Dayton 1910-2010

WEST BEND — Rena M. Dayton, 99, of Emmetsburg, formerly of West Bend, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the United Methodist Church in West Bend. Burial will be in the West Bend Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Harris Funeral Home in West Bend.

Rena Mae Dayton, the daughter of James and Iva (Richards)?Burns, was born March 26, 1910, in Edinburg, IL. She married Earl Stanley Dayton on March 22, 1930. After divorcing, she was a homemaker and a farmer with her lifelong companion William Schupfer. She had lived in Emmetsburg since 1989.

Rena was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a loyal Hawkeye and avid sports fan. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of West Bend and Emmetsburg, and the Riverside Ladies Aid.

Survivors include her son, William (Colleen)?Dayton; two nieces raised as daughters, Charlene Reineking and Sandra (James)?Hatterman; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is are a sister-in-law, Margaret Burns; and dear friend, Linda Detrick.

Rena was preceded in death by her parents; William Schupfer; and siblings, Helen, Thomas, Everett and Ross.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Iowa City Hospice.
