Floyd R. Aldrich 1929-2010
Floyd R. Aldrich, 80, of Emmetsburg, and formerly of Mason City, passed away peacefully in the Hospice Unit at the Palo Alto County Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010.
A funeral service was Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City with Pastor Jeff Dahlin officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Memorials may be directed to the Palo Alto County Hospice, or Emmetsburg Senior Center.
Floyd was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Van Meter, the son of Cecil and Ethel (Goodson) Aldrich. He graduated from Van Meter High School, where he was a star catcher on the baseball team, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years. Floyd drove truck, was the manager of Walnut Grove, and worked at the Breeze Gas Station before working in maintenance at LeHigh Cement Plant where he retired in 1989 after 21 years.
Floyd married Arlene Aldrich on Dec. 1, 2007 in Emmetsburg.
In his spare time Floyd enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cribbage, gardening and grilling out. He was known as a jack of all trades, and was on a bowling league. Floyd also enjoyed his two dogs, Prince and Brandy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg and part of the FCRV, a family camping organization.
Left to lovingly remember Floyd are his wife, Arlene of Emmetsburg; his children: William Aldrich, Mason City, Brenda Aldrich, Sioux City, Mark (Alana) Paulsen, Texas, Kathy (Don) Ferrier, South Dakota, Greg (Mary) Paulsen, Arizona, Joe Paulsen, Mason City, Cristy (Steve) Tass, Mason City, Jeff (Sheri) Paulsen, Ames, Larry Paulsen, Plymouth, Matt (Shelly) Paulsen, Mason City, and Lisa (Bill) Lane, Mason City; his stepchildren: Darrell (Carla) Aldrich, Massachusetts, Debra McLaughlin, Emmetsburg, Mary Aldrich, Virginia, and Terry (Sheila) Aldrich, Spencer; daughter-in-law, Nancy Paulsen, Mason City; 28 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; 10 step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Aldrich, Desoto; and his former wife, Doris.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; grandson, Dustin Paulsen; granddaughter, Chasidy Paulsen; four brothers, Paul, Earl, Walter and Don Aldrich; an infant sister; and a sister-in-law Verna Aldrich.
