Richard James Kane
RENO, NV — Richard James Kane, 55, a former professional football player, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at his home in Reno from complications with pneumonia.
Born in Lincoln, NE, Kane grew up loving baseball, football and basketball. His athletic gift landed him a draft pick by the Detroit Lions in 1977 as a running back. He played for the team through 1983, switching to the Washington Redskins for the 1984-85 season.
Kane also had a 25-year career in the automotive business in Reno, NV.
In April 2005, Kane lost his leg after a motorcycle accident. Kane would later help start a local amputee support group.
Survivors include his loving wife of 13 years, Dianne; his mother, Anne Kane; three sons, Ryan, Sean and John; and daughter, Kelly.
Rick Kane’s father was Jerry Kane of Emmetsburg. Jerry Kane died several years ago in Roseville, CA. Jerry Kane’s sisters and brother, who survive, are:?Helen Brown of Coralville, Marigene Keane of Seattle, WA, and Jack Kane of Shawnee Mission, KS.
