Joseph B. Naig 1933-2009

Funeral service for Joseph B. Naig of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.

Burial will be in Eastside Memorial Cemetery, Estherville. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the funeral home in Emmetsburg.

Mr. Naig died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He was 76.

Joseph Benjamin Naig was born March 25, 1933, in Depew, the son of Bertel and Josie (Handeland)?Naig. He attended Vernon #7 school, west of Depew. Joe served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 15, 1953 to Jan. 27, 1856.

On Aug. 31, 1957, Joe Naig and Darlene Sidles were married at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. They had homes in Emmetsburg, Graettinger, Whittemore and Ringsted. Truck driving was Joe’s passion, which he did for over 40 years. He delivered freight and feed for Graettinger Freight Line, Emmetsburg Grain (for 17 years) and over the road companies. His last place of employment was MaxYield where he retired from in 2008. Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; sons, La Mont (Penny), Lauren and Lonnie, all of Emmetsburg; granddaughter JoAnna; great grandchildren, Emma Jade and Jason Joseph.

Also surviving are a sister, Bertha Johnson of Ringsted; and brothers, Berger (Dorothy) of Fairmont, MN, and Silas of Hawaii; and a half-sister, Esther Egland of Emmetsburg.

Mr. Naig was preceded in death by his parents; half brothers, Pete (Ruth) and Marvin Peterson; and brother-in-law, Tillman Egland.
